Algebra Plus Summer Academy 2007 Research Results

Students were asked the above questions at the beginning of the Academy and at the close of camp five weeks later. The results clearly show a correlation between the MathPOWER program and higher confidence in math across all age groups.
Aside from simply bolstering student’s math skills, the MathPOWER Academy aims to get students thinking about college and aspirations after high school. After leaving the academy, students entering ninth grade showed a greater interest in college education and most of these students leave the program with a list of colleges they’re interested in attending.
Overall, students across the board showed a greater interest in math along with a marked increase in their confidence towards problem solving. In the lower grades these differences were more apparent but, equally as important, students entering into the ninth grade showed a greater interest in attending college and furthering their goals.
